Frequently asked questions
It all began with a simple idea driven by a deep passion for mental well-being (and inner healing for adult daughters with difficult family histories). At Magenta Owl Psychotherapy, we pride ourselves on tailoring the approach we offer to YOUR unique needs... and are unwavering in our dedication to ensuring every client feels safe, heard and respected. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, meaning that everything we do reflects our commitment to providing a secure therapeutic space for you; enabling growth and processing at a steady, manageable pace.
What are some worries or questions people often have about therapy, especially if they're a bit unsure about starting?
You might be reluctant to dig up the past - and prefer to keep certain doors firmly closed. We aim to go at YOUR pace... therapy can be challenging, but it should never be overwhelming. If you need to take things slowly, that's perfectly ok!
If a client wants homework in between the scheduled sessions - either to work on a specific goal, or to journal / reflect on an aspect of therapy - this can be mutually agreed. We will encourage you to step outside your comfort zone; but not to enter your panic zone.
If you have fears about "opening up a can of worms", we understand. History, however, has a way of repeating itself if we refuse to address our core issues... being open to questioning elements of your past is invariably a positive thing, provided you have the right support in place as you move through the changes.
If you identify with the label "family scapegoat" you may have experienced being invalidated, unheard and denied. The aim of Magenta Owl Psychotherapy is to provide a safe space... in which you are listened to and metaphorically held.
What are the options I have to choose between if deciding I do want to embark on a therapy journey?
We offer both in-person and online services. Some individuals prefer to undertake "real life" face-to-face intervention, for the extra layer of support this can provide... others like to sit in the safety and comfort of their home, where they can immediately start to process and reflect when the session ends. Your choice needs to be whichever way works best for you.
How would you describe your therapy style? What makes Magenta Owl a safe and welcoming place for people?
Our approach to therapy is that it must be tailored to the individual... and never generic. While both Lianne and Willow have undergone extensive training in CBT and person-centred modalities, the emphasis is always upon working in a way that accommodates the needs and safety of the client. We are receptive to feedback, and know that progress rarely happens in straight lines... course adjustments along the way are to be expected!
What are the best steps to take next?
If you have further questions, please reach out to us for an informal conversation... we can explore your hopes, fears, goals and requirements before moving forwards in the direction that is best suited to you.
